Cygames will no longer be receiving password-protected files (such as encrypted ZIP files) via email
Tokyo-based video game publisher and developer Cygames, Inc. (HQ: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Koichi Watanabe, hereinafter referred to as “Cygames”) has announced that it will no longer be receiving password-protected files (such as encrypted ZIP files) via email.
Attaching password-protected files to emails is a long-established and widely accepted method of ensuring data security. However, in recent years, this method has become increasingly exploited as a means of distributing malware, such as Emotet. Consequently, to further ensure the information security of both Cygames and its clientele, the company will no longer accept password-protected files (such as encrypted ZIP files) via email.
Beginning January 18, 2023, at 8 PM (JST), such emails received by Cygames will retain their text, but attached password-protected files will be deleted. Senders will not be notified about deleted files. Please contact the intended recipient(s) for more information on how to successfully send files.
